Together with my friend and writer Philip Huff we went through rough waters getting our first feature see the light of day. We succeeded. Greenland tells the love story between successful documentary photographer Hugo (Thomas Ryckewaert) and the younger, beautiful Iris (Gaite Jansen), beginning and ending in Greenland. A story on the mix-up between love and lust and the misunderstandings this can cause.
Greenland is also another attempt to look for ways to make fiction and documentary meet, this time using both film and photography. For me the project resulted in a very special collaboration between all departments, in which one of the aims was to tell this love story in such an original way that instead of just “real” it had to feel like an artistic impression – as if it were a series memories – of the protagonist Hugo himself, whose love for Iris develops into an obsession and will change his life forever.
