Tomas Kaan (Mkwajuni, 1979) has a fascination for people and places that are subject to radical change. For documentaries en television-series he travelled to former Yugoslavia, the Caucasus, Africa, the Middle East and the North Pole.
Tomas builds his films around a strong emotion or a specific atmosphere using a distinct visual style. He has a preference for timeless, nostalgic stories, absurd humour and Rock & Roll.

For the North-Holland Biënnale 2008 photographer Léon Hendrickx and I combined our different disciplines in an associative quest through the landscape of North-Holland. We travelled from archive to buildingplot, from dune to museum, and spoke to all the people we bumped into. The project resulted in a textual and photographic story that is neither entirely documentary nor fictive.
